A tradition of caring - A history of success.

Our founder’s goal became the corporate goal for NIOXIN®. For nearly twenty years, we have worked at unraveling the complex challenge of how best to address, and most importantly, how to provide a solution for thin-looking hair for the millions who battle this discouraging problem. Our world-renowned team of NIOXIN®researchers have developed the most advanced system to improve the appearance of fine and thinning hair — NIOXIN® Thinning Hair Systems.

With 8 NIOXIN® Thinning Hair Systems, Intensive Therapy™, and styling lines Volumizing Reflectives™ and Smoothing Reflectives™— all are designed as a process to create and maintain an optimum scalp environment for all hair textures. The NIOXIN daily care regimen is a process that addresses the problems associated with thin-looking hair, including hair loss through mechanical breakage, which leads to fine, fragile, thin-looking hair.

A ReEnergized NIOXIN®

NIOXIN® has evolved from a from a small niche-category business to become the industry leader in fine and thin-looking hair care. To make the NIOXIN®system even simpler for you to use, we have separated the NIOXIN® Thinning Hair Systems into eight distinct categories — each one formulated to address specific thinning hair concerns.

Viewing your scalp in a different way

Why scalp health
is the key to healthy hair.

Many conventional shampoos, conditioners and styling products simply coat the hair and create buildup on the scalp.
Scalp skin and facial skin.

The scalp must be treated properly to keep the scalp environment and hair looking young, healthy and vibrant.
What are you doing to make
sure your scalp is healthy?

Are you taking the right steps to avoid hair loss?

Why scalp health is the key to healthy hair.

Conventional shampoos, conditioners and styling products are formulated to clean the fabric or fiber of hair. Unfortunately, many of these products simply coat the hair and create buildup on the scalp. This can cause the follicle to become blocked and further aggravate the overall problems associated with hair follicle debris. Because your living hair and scalp need nourishment, scalp skin needs to be clean, moisturized and nourished daily to be kept healthy.
Scalp skin and facial skin.

People often treat their facial skin with products to prevent the effects of aging. In much the same way, the scalp must be treated properly to keep the scalp environment and hair looking young, healthy and vibrant. And like facial skin, the scalp is susceptible to everything we come into contact with all day long, every day—things of which most of us may not be aware. Toxins, air pollutants, chlorine, sunlight, metals, minerals and water pollution can negatively effect the scalp skin and play a role in hair loss. Like the face, excessive exposure to the phototoxic effects of sunlight, for example, allow harmful UV rays to strike and penetrate the skin. This can cause unnaturally aging of the skin cells of the scalp, possibly harm the hair shaft and inhibit growth.
What are you doing to make sure
your scalp is healthy?

Are you exposing yourself to harmful toxins by using products that can clog follicles and potentially damage the health of your scalp and your hair? If you use shampoos, conditioners or styling products that contain alcohol, PVPs or animal proteins, the answer is probably yes. Are you taking the right steps to avoid hair loss? The scalp environment must be maintained to ensure a very delicate balance. It requires a daily process to keep it healthy and to sustain hair in the growth phase of development. A healthy scalp starts with you, and only you can help create the best environment to promote healthy, long-living hair.

Warning signs and risks

Understanding the risks and recognizing the early warning signs of thinning

After decades of study, NIOXIN® Research Laboratories have identified six major reasons you might experience premature hair loss.

Genetic predisposition of hormonal balances and imbalances, as well as the conversion of testosterone into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can be inherited from either your mother’s or your father’s side of the family. A common family predisposition involves natural, age-related hormonal changes that can cause hair loss.

  •  Acne is inflammation of the sebaceous glands from retained secretion is associated with DHT and is an indication of hormonal imbalances that often lead to premature hair loss.

  •  Seborrhea is a functional disease of the sebaceous glands that produces excess sebum, which builds up on the scalp. An over production of sebum is a warning sign indicating the same hormonal imbalances that lead to hair loss.

  •  Alopecia areata is a systemic, non-hormonal cause of hair loss triggered by genetics, diet and stress and characterized by bald spots that come and go as well as severe, permanent hair loss.

  •  Excessive daily hair loss is when 50 or more hairs per day are lost and not replaced at the same rate, indicating potential hair loss problems.

  •  Excessive body hair in men indicates a 50% greater risk of baldness if a man has complete chest hair; 70% greater risk if a man has chest, shoulder and back hair; and 90% greater risk if a man has total body hair.

  •  Excessive or sudden appearance of body hair in women points to an imbalance in hormones. This same hormonal imbalance can cause premature baldness.

Are you at risk for thinning hair?
  •  Stress and trauma
are prone to produce increased levels of testosterone, which converts to DHT, interrupting the hair growth cycle — constricting the blood supply, oxygen and nutrient uptake and vitamins to the hair follicle.

  •  Nutrition and diet
play a significant role in hair loss wherein a high consumption of animal fats, rapid weight loss and liquid protein diets can create a lack of amino acids, biotin, iron, protein and zinc—all essential to healthy hair.

  •  Health issues
such as a malfunctioning of the hormone producing thyroid, and natural hormonal changes in women due to pregnancy, childbirth and menopause, can trigger hair thinning and loss.

  •  Medications
such as birth control, or any hormonal therapy can encourage hair loss as the hair follicle is incredibly sensitive to changes. Steroids, specific chemotherapies as well as many blood pressure, diabetic, heart disease and acne medications can cause temporary or permanent hair loss.

  •  Environmental factors
such as toxins, air and water pollutants, chlorine, metals and minerals come into contact with our scalps every day. Pollutants such as pseudo estrogens and toxins from within our body can also combine to cause hair loss.

Research shows that many early warning signs of thinning can be sudden or gradual. They include excessive hair loss, thinning, scalp inflammation, or the development of bald spots. The earlier you discover, recognize and address these signs and symptoms, the better your chances for protecting your health, maintaining hair density and putting an end to your hair loss. Research also shows us that over the past decade, hair loss is on the rise in both men and women. For instance, two out of every three men can expect to be bald or balding by the time they reach 50 years of age. And 36 percent of all women between the ages of 40 and 49 agonize over some degree of hair thinning or loss.

Maximum scalp health
equals maximum hair health

It’s clear that the health of the scalp is directly related to the health and growth cycle of human hair. And practicing proper scalp hygiene requires a careful process of preventive maintenance and daily care. It takes more than one step or one product to achieve this.

It’s important to use a system of customized products for your hair type and condition—products that cleanse the hair shaft, the environment on the scalp skin and the follicle tissue.

Then, it’s essential to moisturize and energize the cellular activity of the scalp skin and the living hair, nourishing the hair follicle and surrounding tissue. This process requires using select cleansers, conditioners and treatments, supplements and styling products that contain bionutrients, like vitamins, proteins and amino acids.

Only NIOXIN® has the unconventional ingredients and unconventional products for that process.
